Uses
Tusheti – “We use “jangaro”, i.e. the “rock rust” for dying to produce brick-red colour” [1]; “Jangaro” grows on rocks and big stones; I collect it, dip in water for 1-2 days, then put thread into this water, boil for 30 minutes, take the thread out, wrap in plastic package, cool and then wash. The colour is lighter than that of chocolate” [2]; „I use “jangaro” for thread colouring, it gives brick-red colour“[3]. Adjara – “In childhood we collected colourful things that occur on big stones, poured them onto a wet stone, then steered with a long stone until they dissolve and used to paint on paper. We did not have colour pencils. Thus we made rust-colour, brown, white, dry grass colour paints. Reddish ones more often occurred on the upper sunlit side, green ones more often grew on shaded side” [4].
